Muggy warm days in southern Florida belie the notion of winter, even in the Sunshine state. However, just around the "bend" is the winter solstice. What exactly is that? The winter solstice is the shortest day and longest night of the year and often marks the beginning of winter. Immediately after the days begin to lengthen and nights shorten.
